A Busy Woman’s Guide to Rest (Without Quitting Your Life)

Kate Remauro (PMHNP-BC) | June 20, 2026
A realistic approach to rest for busy women who can’t simply put life on pause. Learn how to slow down, ease the pressure, and give yourself permission to do less without abandoning your responsibilities.
Let’s be honest, no one reading this is disappearing into a candlelit yurt for 3 days every month. You have a life. Responsibilities. A calendar that is probably color coded and quite full.

So here’s the realistic version of rest:

1. Lower the bar (strategically, not dramatically)

This is not your “optimize everything” week.

This is your “what actually needs to get done?” week.

2. Keep one non-negotiable

Pick one thing that makes you feel like a functioning adult:

  • Answer emails
  • Show up to work
  • Feed yourself something green

Everything else? Flexible.

3. Swap force for ease

Instead of:

“I should power through this”
Try:
“What would make this easier?”

(smaller chunks, slower pace, fewer tabs open, literally and emotionally)

4. Choose “active rest” if sitting still makes you feral

Rest doesn’t have to mean horizontal.
It can look like:

  • A walk
  • Light organizing
  • Cooking something simple
  • Canceling plans and feeling zero remorse

5. Use the Out of Office (internally, if not externally)

Even if your calendar is full, your energy can quietly shift to:

“I’m doing what’s required. Not auditioning for Employee of the Month.”
